...1st of all...open the path layer on to the wallpaper that u like...ctrl+click the path...

...alt+backspace to fill the color with white...

...go to edit > stroke for 2 copies of the layer and displace them using displacement...

...then use gaussian blur to smooth out the edges...

...go to image > calculation to combine both layers together...

...to make the chrome like effect, go to the channels and with the layer selected, open the curve pallette and make an M curve...u can save it if u wanna use it later...

...this is wat it looks like after the curve adjustments...

...copy and paste it on the layers pallete...

...using any picture as a background...edit the background and mask it out with the logo...

...go to the path layer, make a copy of a new one...free transform and displace it to make a shadow...

...go back to the channels palette, hide all layers except the shadow and the BG...to soften the image...

...using lasso tool, create a shape and use feather effect...

...the use motion blur to give the shadow as real as possible with the lighting positioning...

...S02 assignment2: digital wallpaper...

...in this assgmnt we are needed to make a digital wallpaper promoting our on faculty during faculty's open day...before that, make sure u set up the rulers and guides...for this blog i purposely hide the guides so that u can see the process clearly...

...first set up a black colored BG of an a4 size clipboard (i prefer calling it canvas)...duplicate the BG layer and use layer styles > gradient overlay...set up the gradient depending on our likings and adjust it...

...next create 2 boxes using the rectangle tool and set the colors...nxt create 3 thin lines and adjust them evenly...

...open the ASIMO image taken from the website, create path using pentool to isolate the ASIMO from the BG...then drag it to the main canvas...transform the image by flipping it...

...duplicate a layer frm the ASIMO...i use gaussian blur to give so it would blend nicely when i overlap it with the main ASIMO...

...when its done, link all the ASIMO layers and hit ctrl+L to bring out the level menu...adjust it with the slider on the menu to darken the image...

...nxt is the chest logo...i drag the image of MMU logo which i got frm the net...using free transform, i resize and reshape the image to fit its chest...then using layer style i use bevel and emboss and set it so that the chest logo looks as if its real...

...now for the futuristic part...using a image as a template, i made an 'element' using adobe illustrator and export it to photoshop...then the element is dragged on to the canvas and i use layer style > outer glow and inner glow effect...and set it accordingly...

...for the PCB (printed circuit board)...i did the same thing which is drawing it using illustrator and export it to photoshop...then i color the PCB and dragged them to the canvas using magic wand...for this elements, i also used inner and outer glow and set the opacity so it looks transparent...

...whn the elements are in place, nxt is making the fonts...im using basic bold arial with certain settings by using paragraph...

...for the "FACULTY OF ENGINEERING" and the email add below, i added some outer glow...

...lastly for the arrow icon, i created it and drag it to the canvas...nxt i use free transform to resize it and arrange it nxt to the email add...then i added outer glow to it...

...after a lot of trials and errors i finally manage to complete it...even though its only 11 steps..but actually its quite challenging for me...guess i still need to learn more...so, after few adjustments and touch-ups its done...comments are alwys welcome here...tqs...

...S02 assignment2: project charter...

Assignment 2 Title: Digital Wallpaper

Project Start Date: 8 December, 2008

Project Finish Date: 23 December, 2008.

Project Objective:

To be able to use various tools and techniques in Adobe Photoshop in creating digital wallpaper titled “MMU FOE Open Day”. For this assignment we are to promote our own faculty; in this case Faculty of Engineering to newcomers and outsiders. Besides that, its purpose is to provide them knowledge on our faculty and courses that we offer here.

Approach:

For this assignment, the digital wallpaper that I will be doing will be a mixture of pictures taken from websites and some vector arts that I have created using Illustrator. Then all of the images will be edited in Photoshop using A4 size canvas.

I love simplicity, creativity, abstract and I like to make people think. Hence, my basic theme on this digital wallpaper is futuristic, hence holographic board, robots comes to mind. The reason for this is since FOE has a course on nanotech and other advance courses (which I do not quite understand myself) so I have decided on not using human images and use an image of a humanoid; ASIMO.

In this assignment, I will be using both Illustrator and Photoshop to design and edit some images. Although I design by just using Photoshop, but I prefer using Illustrator since it is straight forward. In Illustrator, I am using it to design the holographic board based on a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and an arrow icon. When it is done, I exported it to Photoshop for editing.

In Photoshop, I use mostly blending options to edit the images and to design the holographic board. As for the ASIMO, I use three layers with different filters and also using Levels to adjust the brightness of the image. Gradient is use for the background layer and for the fonts, I use paragraph palette to edit it.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1st Phase: Idea is sketched, and images are searched from the internet.

2nd Phase: Images are edited; vector arts are made in Illustrator.

3rd Phase: All images are transferred to Photoshop and edited.

4th Phase: 50%-80% work done. Consultation with Madam Lydia

5th Phase: Last editing. Submission of Assignment 2

Comment:

In this assignment the most challenging part is on how to promote my own faculty successfully and how to attract the people’s attention besides being creative. The problem that I faced during this period of completing the assignment is how to fit in the entire list of course offered by my faculty on to one canvas. Since this is a digital wallpaper and not a pamphlet, I have decide to just put in the main course and the dates. For my point of view, this will make the people curious on what our faculty offer here and to go for themselves. Even so, in completing this assignment is enjoying and I can use my own creativity in putting my ideas into the canvas.

...S02E05 - cool fire...

...this tutorial is about apply layer styles, using blending modes and how to make ur personal brush...

...1st, open the required psd file...from it, make a new layer, and create a simple flame by using the lasso tool...deselect and use gaussian blur for with a small radius...then, highlight the flame and lock the transparency layer and using brush tool with a 0% hardness, brush on the sides of the flame...

...after that, highlight the flame using marquee tool...hide the BG layer...click edit > define brush preset to name the flame as ur personal brush...

...using the personal brush, make a new layer and create a set of flames on to the hands with white fills...u can set different sizes to get the flames...

...then by using the marquee tool, create a box on to a new layer...pick two colors (front and back)...and click render > filter clouds...u can adjust the levels by pressing the ctrl+l key to adjust the darkness/brightness of the 'flames'...

...then with the color layer is still on, ctrl+click the flames layer to select both layers...press ctrl+shift+i to select the layers and hit backspace to reveal only the colored flames...

...highlight the flames using marquee tool again, and go to filter > liquify to make the flames more realistic...when satisfied, click ok...

...for the smokes, the steps are similar as making the flame before but on different color and the radius of gaussian blur...

...when done, make some few effects by adjusting the BG layer...for me i used photo filter and brightness/contrast to make the environment of the fire cool...who says fire are hot?...comments are welcome...

...S02E04 - ink!...

...for this tutorial we are making the realistic watery effect for the words...

...1st go to the 'ink' layer, and add a layer style...go to the gradient overlay and on the gradient color bar, pick the desired color u want...

...on the same layer style, go to inner shadow to give it a shadow behind the font...

...next set the drop shadow effect on the layer...

...and also the outer glow...the setting are depending on ur liking...

...for the 3d effect...go to the bevel and emboss section...and set the altitude to 75%...

...when ur satisfied with ur settings, save the style by dragging the layer on the styles palette and name it...

...next, after clicking on to the BG layer...click the channels layer and make a copy of either of the layers that has the best BW contrast...open the filter menu and choose gaussian blur and adjust it accordingly...

...then define the pattern by edit > define pattern...name it as u wish...

...to give the realistic water effect, simply go on to the layers panel, and double click one of the layer which will open the layer style menu...go on to texture and pick the last one...adjust the depth accordingly...

...rename the style by dragging the layer on to the styles palette...the saved style can be used for other layers too...

...next make a rectangle by using the rectangle tool...make sure the 'shape layers' are selected by clicking on the upper right hand side...

...apply the style on to the layer...

...and hit the ctrl+backspace to show the front layer...

...using the brush tool with a desired size and a 100% hardness, create a water effect on the clipboard...

...to give a realistic effect...double click the layer to show the blending layers options...click the "blend interior effects as group" and set the fill opacity as u desired...

...after few touch-ups and settings...this is the final view of tutorial 4...
